Weekly Digest 12/16

Hey there!

Welcome to the last full business week of the year. It's hard to believe, but 2024 is coming to an end and we are in the thick of the holiday season. Though we are closed next week, there are still things happening this week that you should be aware of - let's dive in!

Holiday Closure

Upright Education will be closed for a Holiday Break next week, which means all sessions and events will be canceled from 12/23-12/29. Taryn and I will be back in action the following week, but be sure to reach out via email or Discord if you need to schedule a coaching session. On 12/30 and 12/31, we have in-service time blocked off to prepare for 2025, but we will still be available to meet if you need anything. If you don't see any time available on our calendars, don't hesitate to reach out - we will find time!

We would also like to wish you and yours the happiest of holidays!

Got Referrals? Event TOMORROW

The first event will take place tomorrow at 5:00 pm ET and feature Brent Brown, a graduate of our Software Development program. Brent is currently a Software Developer at Reynolds and Reynolds, an automotive software company specializing in software used by dealerships, but this is no ordinary alumni discussion!

Brent has generously offered to act as a referral for any Upright graduates who are interested in joining Reynolds and Reynolds. They are known for hiring entry-level folks and have headquarters throughout the US. Though Brent is on the software development side of the organization, there are many other roles posted on their website and, undoubtedly, more coming in the new year, and his referrals work for any role on any team.

During the event, Brent will share how you can reach out to receive a referral from him so don't miss this opportunity! We'll see you there.

If you are interested in working at Reynolds and Reynolds, do NOT apply until after you connect with Brent. The referral MUST come before the application in this case.

UX/UI Alumni Spotlight: Taylor-Rae Carvalho

Be sure to also join us at 6:00 pm ET for an awesome conversation with one of our UX/UI program graduates. Taylor is using the skills she obtained via Upright in really cool ways and you won't want to miss this opportunity to ask questions, gain insights, and hear about her successes.  We'll see you at 6:00 pm ET for this event and we encourage you to submit questions prior to the event using the link below on the flyer.

Reminder: New Resume Templates

Taryn recently worked with our instructors to revamp our resume templates and we now have four templates per program. They are available as templates in Prentus and in the Career Services Help Center.

Reminder: Discord Updates

We are excited to introduce dedicated Career Services channels for each of our programs: software engineering, data analytics, UI/UX design, and digital marketing.
These channels are designed to assist you in your career journey with tailored resources, advice, and support. It's also a space to:

  • Ask questions
  • Connect with other learners and alumni
  • Share your experiences
  • Contribute to discussions

If you don't see these new channels in the left sidebar under "Career Services + Upright Outcomes", here is a short video with instructions on how to find and add them.

Along with the introduction of these channels, you will notice that we are archiving a couple of our less-used channels. The #jobs-and-career and #networking-events channels have both had "archive" added to their channel names and will no longer be updated by our team. Though they are archived, they will not be deleted for three months in case folks would like to reference previous threads. Moving forward, any information that would have been shared in either of these channels will live in #career-services-announcements, #general-career-services or program-specific channels.

All other channels will remain the same for now, but we are always open to feedback. Feel free to share suggestions at any time in our Career Services Suggestion Box, available in the Resource Hub

Have a great rest of your week and Happy Holidays!
