What Does the Capstone Look Like in the Data Analytics Bootcamp?

The capstone project is the final and most significant part of your Data Analytics Bootcamp. It gives you the chance to apply everything you’ve learned to a real-world data problem. Here’s what you can expect:

Capstone Overview:

  • Duration: The capstone takes place during the final 3 weeks of the bootcamp.
  • Teamwork: You’ll be responsible for sourcing a real-world sponsor to work with on a relevant data project. This project will challenge you to demonstrate the skills you’ve gained throughout the course.

Capstone Process:

  1. Sponsor Selection (By Week 12):

    • By Week 12, you should have selected your sponsor—a real-world organization or individual who needs help solving a data problem. You’ll work closely with them during the capstone to understand their needs and deliver a data-driven solution.

    • If you’re unable to secure a sponsor by Week 12, alternative options will be available to you.

  2. Studio Sessions:

    • During the capstone phase, every session will be an open-format studio where you work on your project in a collaborative environment with support from instructional staff.
      • Attendance is still required during the capstone weeks!
  3. Capstone Project Development:

    • Creating Your Dataset: Whether through surveys, databases, or other data sources, you’ll clean and prepare a dataset for analysis.
    • Data Analysis: You’ll identify trends, patterns, and insights using the tools you’ve learned, including R, Python, and others. You may also explore new technologies that fit your project.
    • Data Visualization: You’ll choose a data visualization tool, such as Tableau, PowerBI, or Matplotlib, to present your findings clearly and effectively.
    • Machine Learning: If applicable, you’ll apply machine learning techniques to your project, defining your model objectives and outcomes.
  4. Preparing for Demo Day:

    • You’ll prepare a professional presentation using a tool like PowerPoint or Google Slides. Accuracy and clarity are crucial, so ensure your content is well-organized and error-free before focusing on design.
    • As part of the process, you’ll practice your presentation skills and receive feedback from your peers and instructional staff.

Capstone Presentation:

  • Demo Day: The program concludes with a Demo Day on the final Wednesday of your bootcamp. You’ll present your capstone project to an audience of peers, instructional staff, and potential employers. This is your opportunity to showcase the skills and knowledge you’ve gained throughout the bootcamp.

By the end of the capstone, you will have completed a full data analytics project, worked with a real-world sponsor, and gained valuable experience in solving real-world problems—preparing you to enter the data analytics field with confidence.
