Pre-Interview Systems Check: Setting Yourself Up for Success
In-Person Interviews:
- Check Directions: Familiarize yourself with the interview location. Double-check directions, and if possible, plan your route using GPS or a map.
- Plan for Traffic and Parking: Consider traffic patterns for the time of day you’ll be traveling. Allow extra time for delays. If parking is an issue, research nearby parking lots or street parking availability.
- Prepare for Delays: Arriving early is always better than cutting it close. Plan to be at the location 10-15 minutes ahead of time.
Online Interviews:
- Download the Latest Software Version: Ensure you have the most up-to-date version of the interview platform (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) downloaded on your computer.
- Adjust Your Settings: Use a blurred background to maintain a professional look, and enable noise-canceling features if available to minimize distractions.
- Check Your Internet Connection: Run a speed test to verify your connection is stable. A weak connection could result in glitches and interruptions.
- Position Your Camera: Make sure your chair is adjusted so your face is centered on the screen, and you are directly facing the camera—no side angles. Proper eye contact helps create a connection with your interviewers.
- Have a Clean, Distraction-Free Background: If you don't use a blurred background, ensure your surroundings are tidy and free from distractions. A clean environment reflects professionalism and keeps the focus on you.
- Event Link Accessibility: Ensure the interview link is easy to find. Ideally, track it in Prentus and add it to your Prentus Calendar for quick access on the day of the interview.
